RE: Tree Inventory Program
Dear Residents,
There are about 700 village trees throughout Russell Gardens that are at the core of what makes our Village standout in its beauty. Recently, we contracted an arborist, Gibney Designs, to examine the health and safety of these trees. The purpose is not only to ensure the trees are healthy and properly maintained, but also to make every effort to ensure the community is safe. As is common with trees after a storm, there may be many fallen branches and limbs throughout the neighborhood. We cannot prevent this from happening; however, we can hopefully limit the number of fallen branches/limbs/trees by ensuring the trees are healthy, and those that pose a safety concern are removed.
Presently, the arborist has examined approximately 8% of the 700 trees. Upon this initial examination, the arborist has recommended the removal of 5 village trees that are either rotted and/or infested without the ability to be "saved". Each homeowner that will be directly impacted, by the removal of a village tree from their property front, will be notified in advance.
The tree evaluation program will be ongoing, with the goal of examining all 700 trees. We have obtained a software program called Treekeeper, which documents and records the status of each of the 700 trees within our village. Furthermore, as trees are removed based on the arborist’s examination, a new tree will be planted at a later date in its place to ensure the beauty of our village is not compromised. We will continue to keep you informed as a community, and especially those homeowners that are directly impacted.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we navigate through the village trees.
Best regards,
Mayor David M. Miller
